Little Cougs Wrestling Coming to SAC in April

Little Cougs CITY LEAGUE!

Each elementary school in Caldwell will have its own team and compete against the other schools in Caldwell. Program is designed specifically for kids of all experience levels. Little Cougs is an introductory level wrestling program meant to get kids excited to be part of the sport of wrestling.

Who: Ages K-5 BOYS AND GIRLS
Where: Practices will be held at Sacajawea Elementary School .
When: Right after school on Mondays and Tuesdays. Your child will need picked up at 5:15.
Starting: April 5th
What You Need: Shorts, T-Shirt, Clean Shoes
Cost: $35 first child $25 second Child, $15 Third Child Includes Tshirt (Talk to Mr. Webster or Mr. De La Cruz if you want your kids to participate, but you just can't afford it right now).

Families, we want to be able to help share information on Covid-19 vaccination and information in general. Our hope is to keep everyone informed and up to date with new information. It benefits our families, our school, and our community if as many of us as possible are protected so that we can move beyond this pandemic sooner. Things are improving significantly in our county, but we are not quite there yet. Keep protecting your family and our community with masking and distancing. We will do our best at school to do the same.

Visit Idaho’s Covid-19 Pre-Registration to get registered for the vaccine at https://covidvaccine.idaho.gov/.

This site will not provide an actual appointment, but will let providers know you are interested in receiving a vaccination.

Ages 65 and Older
Healthcare workers
Long-term care facility staff and residents
First responders
K-12 teachers and school staff
Frontline essential workers

Vaccine Schedule:

Age 55-64 with at least one medical condition - Open by March 15th

Sacajawea’s Sensory Hallway- A Gift for Everyone // Pasillo Sensorial de Sacajawea: Un Regalo para Todos

During a staff meeting almost two years ago, we were focused on the topic of student emotional learning needs. Several of our teachers talked about the possibility of a sensory room to help students with big feelings get to a place where they can get those out or under control so they can continue learning in their classroom. Now that seed idea of a sensory room has taken a different look and has been turned into a sensory hallway at Sacajawea.

Just a few months after that initial conversation in the staff meeting, partners, parents, school staff and community organizations were in one of our monthly community school stakeholders meetings. A parent during the meeting shared with us the sensory overload their child experienced throughout their school day. One of our Community School Partners, St. Luke’s, was also in the meeting and listening attentively. A few weeks after that meeting we received a call from St. Luke’s. They had decided to fund our sensory hallway and their support has impacted every student in our building.

The purpose of the sensory hallway is to provide a self-directed, sensory-based break to help our students get ready to learn. Brief periods of sensory based movement can improve attention, behavior, and engagement in the classroom by as much as 60%.

As we seek to implement the “Zones of Regulation” curriculum, which is a social-emotional curriculum designed to help students identify and regulate their own emotions, tools like the sensory hallway empower students to take back control of their own education and impact their outcomes in the classroom. The hallway begins with large muscle movement activities like crawling and leaping and pushing, and gradually slows down to more controlled movements as they progress through the hall. This design allows students to move back into the “green zone” where they’re focused, engaged, and ready to learn in the classroom. The physical and mental effects of using the hallway are similar to what students would experience if they were working with an occupational or physical therapist. But with a sensory hallway, everyone can benefit from it. Our students use our hallway individually, as needs arise, in small groups, and even in whole class groups, as a short physical release from hard academic work.

We are thankful for everyone that has made our Sensory Hallway a reality, including St. Luke’s, a team of our staff that designed the hallway, and our custodians! Our teachers and students who use the hallway regularly also remind us how glad we are to have it. We are super thankful for our community support!

And a few weeks ago, after a long wait, we were able to officially hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and personally thank St. Luke's and their team.

Change in Schedule Starting 3/29

Sacajawea Families -

As you probably already know, our school board decided to bring back all students for four full days in school after spring break.

This schedule change will start on Monday, March 29th. Students will be in person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:55 am until 3:30 pm. Wednesdays will continue to be a remote learning day.

Students may arrive between 8:40 and 8:50, and breakfasts may be picked up at the door and eaten in class. Students should not arrive on campus before 8:40, as there will not be supervision for them. School will get out at 3:30 and buses and pickup will start then.

Masks will continue to be required, although we will have specific times and places where masks can be taken off outdoors and at recess. We will maintain physical distance and sanitation as much as is practicable, but won’t be able to maintain anything close to 6 feet with full groups of students. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria.

Bus schedules will be set up by March 19th. After that date you may go to www.caldwellschools.org and click on the bus link for full day bus information.

We look forward to having all of our kids back for full days in school. Please let us know what questions or concerns you have.
