Sacajawea’s Second Grade Swimmers
In early May, Sacajawea’s second grade students had the opportunity to receive free swimming lessons! The Caldwell YMCA received a grant to provide this opportunity to all 2nd grade students in the district. The students went daily for two weeks to an hour long class that included swimming lessons at their level and information on water safety. Thank you to the Caldwell YMCA for providing this opportunity to our students!

Looking For a Few Pre-Schoolers / Hay Espacio Por Algunos PreEscolares
The P16 Pre-School programs at Sacajawea and at Lincoln Elementary have space for a couple new students. Typically, there is a waiting list. If you know someone with preschool kids, especially if they live in the Sacajawea or Lincoln zones, pass the word on to them.
P16 Preschool is a great program provided in our building by the YMCA. The program at Sacajawea runs all day Monday through Thursday. The program at Lincoln runs half day and has room in their PM session. We'd love for as many of our kids as possible to get a head-start on learning before kindergarten.
Financial assistance is available through the YMCA.
You can pick up a registration packet at the Sacajawea office tomorrow or can get more information from:
Maria Quituqua, P16 Coordinator

Sacajawea's Olympic Trials
To celebrate Healthy Kids Day the YMCA and Mr. Thomas joined forces to give Sacajawea students an action-packed day of fun and exercise. In honor of the upcoming summer Olympics, the event began with the staff and students singing the national anthem, led by Miss Chavarria, before they headed off to the different events to compete in.
Thank you Mr. Thomas and the YMCA volunteers for organizing such a wonderful event for the Sacajawea students!

Make a Splash Swimming Program at The Y
Our 3rd graders recently finished their "Make a Splash" swimming program at The Y in Caldwell. What a great opportunity to learn a life skill, swimming. Every 3rd grader in Caldwell gets the opportunity to have a full session of swimming lessons. This year we went to lessons two days a week in September and October. Thanks to our 3rd grade teachers, to the Caldwell Family YMCA staff and swim teachers, and to the generous funders of this fantastic program.
These pictures were taken on the final celebration day, after all of our lessons were done.

The Sacajawea PTO has a fantastic carnival planned with fun for all families. Come to Sacajawea from 5:00 to 7:30.
There will be a spaghetti feed, games and booths. There will be a gift basket raffle, with options to match anyone's fancy. Our carnival will also include a community fair, with resources for families in Caldwell. These include summer sports and lessons as well as different community resources. Don't miss out. Bring a little bit of money to help support our PTO and to support our kids.

Full Scholarships for Summer Swim Lessons - Caldwell Y
The Caldwell Family YMCA has a grant to provide full scholarships for swim lessons to hundreds of local kids. If your kids qualify from free or reduced lunch or if they are of Hispanic, African American or Native American descent then they may qualify for this program, where the whole cost of the lessons is paid for. Sign-ups are going fast as word of mouth spreads, so get in right away. To sign up for this program, parents need to sign up for lessons at the front desk of the Caldwell Y. Lessons will be provided to qualifying kids between age 0 and 18, as space is available. If your kids are not in one of those categories then the Y also has financial assistance available if you need it.
It is good for kids to get involved in something during the summer vacation. The Caldwell Y and the Caldwell City Rec programs both have excellent options available.
