Sacajawea Summer STEM Camp- Registration -- Campamento de STEM- Registración

Sacajawea Students, join us this summer for a week full of fun STEM activities! STEM camp will be about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math - STEM!

We will hold two weeks of STEM Camp. The 1st week will be for incoming 1st-3rd grade students. The second week will be for incoming 4th and 5th graders.

We are now accepting applications for our campers. Applications will be time stamped and will be taken as a first come basis. There are a limited amount of spots for each camp.

Our biggest ask is your complete commitment, in ensuring that your student makes the most of this opportunity. If a student signs up but does not attend, it takes the opportunity away from another student.

Here are some important notes about our camp:

• Camp is for students coming into the 2020-2021 school year. Sorry 5th graders- Middle school will have so many opportunities for you!
• So, if you have a kid currently in 1st grade, they will register as a second grader. 
• We will not be providing transportation. Families are responsible for getting kids to camp each morning, and home each afternoon - on time. 
• Your registration will be signed off by your student’s teacher. 
• Lunch and a snack will be provided every day.
• If all the camp spots have been filled, your student will be placed on a waiting list. If a spot becomes open, you will be notified. 
• Camp spots are reserved for Sacajawea Students only. 

When:
July 6th-10th: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Graders (next school year)
July 13th-18th: 4th and 5th Graders (next school year)

Time:
8:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m daily

Where: Sacajawea Elementary, 1710 N Illinois Ave, Caldwell.

Estudiantes de Sacajawea, ¡únete a nosotros este verano por una semana llena de actividades divertidas de STEM! STEM es Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas.

Tendremos dos semanas de campamento STEM. La primera semana será para los estudiantes entrando: primero, segundo y tercer grado. La segunda semana será para estudiantes entrando el 4to y 5to grado.

Ahora estamos aceptando solicitudes para nuestros campistas. Las inscripciones tendrán un sello de tiempo y se tomarán por orden de llegada. Hay una cantidad limitada de lugares para cada campamento.

Nuestro mayor pedido es su compromiso total, para garantizar que su estudiante aproveche al máximo esta oportunidad. Si un estudiante se inscribe pero no asiste, le quita la oportunidad a otro estudiante.

Aquí hay algunas notas importantes sobre nuestro campamento:

• El campamento es para estudiantes que ingresan al año escolar 2020-2021. Lo sentimos, estudiantes de 5to grado, ¡la escuela intermedia tendrá muchas oportunidades para ustedes!

STEMatSAC On Mustache Day

Caught our 1st grade engineers (Mrs. Hunt's Class) in the SAC STEM center on Thursday, Mustache Day for reading week.  Even with mustaches they were hard at work (and play).  That's the wonderful thing about STEM.  It's so hard to tell the difference between work and play.

Sacajawea's First Grade Field Trip!

On May 3rd first graders spent the morning at Zoo Boise. They popped up like prairie dogs and soaked up the sun like the lions. On the way back to the bus students stopped by the Abraham Lincoln statue, where some asked if he was really that tall, while others explained that there was no way. The classes wrapped things up by having lunch at Settler's Park in Meridian where they enjoyed climbing, playing, and making music.

First Graders Learn About Pointillism!

Recently, Sacajawea's First graders read the story, "The Dot".  It is about a young girl who doesn’t believe she can do art until her art teacher shows her that dots can be art!  The students then experimented with Pointillism using paints, cotton balls, and Q-Tips!

Recientemente, los estudiantes de primer grado de Sacajawea leyeron la historia, “The Dot”.  Se trata de una jovencita que no cree que puede hacer arte hasta que su profesor de arte le muestra que los puntos pueden ser arte! ¡Los estudiantes experimentaron con Puntillismo usando pinturas, bolas de algodón, y Q-Tips!

Sacajawea’s First Grade Students Celebrate the 100th Day of School!

One day last week was the 100th day of school.  To celebrate, the first grade students drew 100 objects, counted by 10’s to 100, decorated 100 day crowns, made necklaces with 100 Fruit Loops, and counted different objects to make 100.  This celebration helps reinforce counting to 100 by ones and tens and it is a lot of fun for the students.

All of us know that reading every day with our kids is a huge benefit to them.  Sometimes it's hard to come up with creative ideas. 

This website (daybydayid.org) is a great resource for families with young learners.  There is a new story from TumbleBooks every day and there is also a song to sing and ideas for crafts, art or STEM activities.  There is a different option for every day of the year.

It looks like a great match for PK, Kinder, and 1st grade.  Try it out and let us know what you think.

Penguins!

Mrs. Saunders’ students at Sacajawea Elementary have started their unit on Penguins.  Today, they participated in a Gallery Walk.  Photos of Penguins were posted throughout the classroom.  In pairs, students wrote sentences about what they saw in each picture.  First graders love Penguins!

Our Playground is Almost Ready

Our kindergarten and 1st grade kids lined up to watch the tractors and construction workers build our new playground (Really, we didn't make them do this).  Fascinating learning. So many questions.

The playground is almost ready.  We can't wait.

Spring has Sprung at Sacajawea Elementary’s First Grade!

Sacajawea’s First Grade Students have been learning about weather, animals, and holidays.  They have been doing some typical spring activities.  Mrs. Saunders’ class made May Day flowers.  Mrs. Rohall’s and Mrs. Friddle’s classes flew kites after reading The Kite and learning about wind.  Mrs. Braun’s and Mrs. Rohall’s class learned about butterflies.  Of course, all of the teachers made sure students went home with Mother’s Day presents!  Our spring celebration was topped off with a trip to the Zoo Boise and the Discovery Center.  Thank you to all of the family members that helped chaperone this event,
