Sacajawea Community School - Resources Just for You/Recursos para Usted

Hi, I am Mrs. Hernandez, and am the Community School Resource Coordinator at Sacajawea Elementary. One of my biggest roles at Sacajawea is helping connect families to resources that are in our wonderful Caldwell community, and beyond. With school closures, connecting with families has been super important, but I am sure I am missing a few. So in order to make sure everyone has access to all the information we’ve been working on collecting for you, we’ve made a web page with all of those resources. It also has information on what a Community School is.

I am working hard, alongside your teachers, principal, and our amazing Sac staff to ensure that you are okay during these difficult times.
Please visit my web page for information on community resources here at Sacajawea Community School Resource Page.
For more information or questions please feel free to contact me at hhernandez1@caldwellschools.org or 208-455-3333 ext 1439 (This extension will still work while the school is closed).
You can also fill out our Sacajawea Family Check-In to make sure we know any needs or challenges your family has right now.
Stay Safe and Healthy everyone!

Mrs. Hernandez
______

Sra. Hernández

Book and a Bite - Tuesdays 11:30 to 1:00 at Sacajawea

Christa Rowland of United Way of Treasure Valley reads to our kids and their friends.
We loved seeing our families at Book and a Bite this Tuesday.  We read stories and learned about water and about electricity.  Kids made water wheels and generally had a good time playing the little swamp with running water in front of the school (Thanks Idaho Public Television and Boise City Dept of Parks and Rec).

Idaho Power had a table full of activities (below) to explore the world of electricity.  Thanks!

Even though the Sacajawea Library will have it's last day tomorrow, Book and a Bite will continue every Tuesday until the last session on August 7th.  Each week another STEM theme.
Every Tuesday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on the front lawn of Sacajawea Elementary.  Can't wait to see what the next theme is!

Did It Sink or Float?

This Tuesday’s theme for Sacajawea’s "A Book and a Bite" was sink and float.  Families and kids of all ages enjoyed various activities.  First, they listened to books about boats and water.  Then, they got to pick a free book to take home and read.  Next, they predicted what things would float and then built boats and rafts. They tested and modified them to get their creations to float.  Finally, they got to eat a nice lunch.  Each week, some items are raffled off to the people who attend. It was a fun afternoon for all.  There are three more "A Book and Bite" days with activities. They are:
July 24th – Water Power
July 31st – States of Matter
August 7th Libraries Rock
We hope to see you there from 11:30am-1:00pm.

7de agosto - Bibliotecas Rock
Esperamos contar con tu presencia de 11:30 am-1:00pm.

Sacajawea's School Carnival was a Great Success!

Last night, Sacajawea Elementary held its annual school carnival.  It was well attended and everyone had a grand time.  It included lots of games, prizes, food, face painting, raffle items, community resources, and even a camel!  Thank you to April Mason for heading it up.  Thanks also to Melissa Ready and her family for getting donations for raffle items, Mary Korn for heading up the bake sale, and Hortensia Hernandez for getting some community partners to attend.  Without these people the carnival would not have been as successful.

Press Tribune Covers Sacajawea's Community Schools Partnership With United Way

The Idaho Press Tribune has a story today highlighting the partnership we have developed with United Way of Treasure Valley to create a "Community Schools" initiative at Sacajawea.

We love to see our kids highlighted doing great things.  Special thanks to Ellie and Jesus, both students from Syringa Middle School's National Junior Honor Society, who volunteered all day during registration.  They had a good time entertaining our kids, while their parents completed registration and were able to meet with Hortensia Hernandez, our community resource coordinator.
