SAC 4th and 5th Graders Enjoy Skerryvore's Scottish Music - Thanks to Caldwell Fine Arts

 On Friday, April 21st, Sacajawea fourth and fifth graders had the opportunity to attend a Skerryvore concert in Jewett Auditorium at The College of Idaho. Skerryvore is an award winning Scottish band. They are currently on a global tour in the U.S. 

The kids enjoyed the cultural music and had opportunities to learn and sing along to songs. They also experienced new clothing, accents and instruments! This field trip tied right into the current fourth grade unit on sound!

El viernes 21 de abril, los estudiantes de cuarto y quinto grado de Sacajawea tuvieron la oportunidad de asistir a un concierto de Skerryvore en el Auditorio Jewett en el Colegio de Idaho. Skerryvore es una banda escocesa galardonada. Actualmente se encuentran en una gira mundial en los EE. UU. 

Los niños disfrutaron de la música cultural y tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender y cantar canciones. ¡También experimentaron  ropa, acentos e instrumentos nuevos! ¡Esta excursión se relacionó directamente con la unidad actual de cuarto grado sobre sonido!

Sacajawea’s Students Enjoy a Play!

On Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, Sacajawea’s second grade students attended the Children’s Theatre Production of “The Flower of Sunnymount Crest.” This is a Scandinavian folktale about a girl going on a quest to find happiness.  Along the way she meets witches, trolls, and fairies.  They end up helping her on her quest because she showed kindness to them.  The students enjoyed the performance.  One of the highlights for them was a Sacajawea second grade student had a role in the musical.  Thank you Caldwell Fine Arts and Sacajawea's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) for arranging this opportunity for our students.

Sacajawea’s Students Enjoy a Puppet Show!

 Caxton Printers sponsored Sacajawea’s second and third grade students’ attendance at “Legends of Coyote” at Jewitt Auditorium.  This puppet show had stories of trickster coyote getting into all kinds of silly situations.  The students laughed so much.  Thank you Caxton Printers for providing this wonderful opportunity to our students!  

CPR is Coming Soon!

21st Century and St. Luke's Children's Hospital are bringing a CPR for friends and family class.  It is Monday, April 22nd from 6-8pm at Sacajawea's 21st Century Classroom #6.  This class is intended for anyone who wants to learn how to perform CPR on adults and children, how to use an AED and how to help a person who is choking.  This is a non-certifying class.  Class size is limited.  Please contact Katie Bishop at 217-412-8575 or 208-455-3333 to reserve your spot.

Hot as Summer…Cold as Winter!

Sacajawea’s second grade students attended the play “Hot as Summer…Cold as Winter” at  Jewett Auditorium on College of Idaho’s campus.  In this play, a lonely prince challenges his staff to make him something hot as summer and cold as winter.  In the end, not only did the heroine make him a hot fudge sunday, but she also became his friend.  There were lots of laughs as the students watched this comedy.  It was definitely a fun adventure for them all. Thank you to Caldwell Fine Arts for arranging this opportunity for our students.

Drama Kids International will conduct auditions and produce our week of Children’s Theatre. All parts are cast with local children, and all children will receive a role in Hot as Summer, Cold as Winter. Preregistration is necessary.

Sacajawea Students are Enchanted!

On Friday, Oct. 5th, Opera Idaho visited Sacajawea Elementary.  They performed “The Enchanted Forest” for all of our students.  The characters’ names of Princess Anastasia and Prince Theodore were picked from the names of a couple of our students. The students heard beautiful singing, had lots of opportunities for laughter, saw a nice backdrop, and had a chance to have their questions answered by the actors.  Thank you to Opera Idaho for this performance and to Sheila Evans for arranging this opportunity for our students.

Missoula Children's Theater Comes to Caldwell - Opportunity For Kids To Perform

Parents, this next week (and the week after) Caldwell Fine Arts hosts the Missoula Children's Theater's (MCT) production of "Beauty Lou and The Country Beast," an original country western adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Beauty Lou and the Beast both learn to look beyond appearances and first impressions to see the beauty that dwells inside.

If you have kids who love to perform I would highly recommend it. My kids have done the MCT productions a few times and really grown from their experiences.  They have had a good time.

Local children audition on Monday and are ready to perform by Friday. They are looking for actors of all ages, from 1st to 12th grades.  It is a pretty big commitment, but it a fantastic experience, and it is only one week. 

Due to high demand, there will be two MCT residencies this year, with two performance weekends. You can choose which week works best for your family.

Auditions are at:
Lincoln Elementary School (1200 Grant St. Caldwell, ID) on
Monday Afternoon, 1/22 from 4:30PM to 6:30PM
and then again on
Monday 1/29 from 4:30PM to 6:30PM

There is a $5 charge to audition and participate.

Practices depend on the age and part, and may be as much as every evening all week long.  Then, the performance will be on Friday and Saturday. It makes for an exhausting week, but it is well worth it.

There will be a musical pre-show, so every student will get a part in something.

Missoula Children's Theater - Auditions - January 25th

This is a great opportunity for kids who love to perform.  If your son or daughter has a dramatic flair this program comes to Caldwell each winter. There are roles for kids from 1st to 12th grades.

The audition for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of Rumpelstiltskin will be held on Monday, January 25 from 4 pm – 6 pm. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled start time and stay for the entire two-hour session. Auditions are held at Lincoln Elementary School, located at 1200 Grant Street in Caldwell.  A $5 audition/participation fee will be collected at the auditions. There are roles for students in 1st through 12th grade.

Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in Rumpelstiltskin. All other students will be cast in a fun Disney-themed musical preshow, directed by Annie Cerda of DreamWeaver Musical Theatre. This is a group audition–no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts. Some students will be asked to start rehearsals after auditions; some will begin practice the next day. All students will receive a detailed schedule for their show after rehearsals.

This production is made possible through financial support from Idaho Commission on the Arts, The National Endowment for the Arts, US Bancorp, The Whittenberger Foundation, The Idaho Community Foundation, SILO, West Valley Medical Center, and Blaisdell Dental.

Metales M5 - A Great Brass Experience at Sacajawea

The Metales M5 Mexican Brass concert was a fantastic experience on Friday afternoon.  Great music!  So engaging for our students.

The Mexican Brass quintet exposed our students to all kinds of different music.  We learned about cannons, fugues, jazz, and they connected music to current topics, such as the scoring of movies.  We learned about the types of musical instruments.

I loved the way the musicians got involved with the audience, even sneaking up on them.  Some of our students were surprised out of their britches to suddenly hear a trombone whispering right behind them.  The tuba player wandered his way right through the audience.  We could see the techniques they used to adjust their tone.

The group was funny.  This gives our kids something to think about, as many of our students will choose to join 6th grade band next year (or the year after for our 4th graders).

This concert was paid for by the Sacajawea PTO and was brought to us by Caldwell Fine Arts.  Thanks for your support.
