Hot as Summer…Cold as Winter!
Sacajawea’s second grade students attended the play “Hot as Summer…Cold as Winter” at Jewett Auditorium on College of Idaho’s campus. In this play, a lonely prince challenges his staff to make him something hot as summer and cold as winter. In the end, not only did the heroine make him a hot fudge sunday, but she also became his friend. There were lots of laughs as the students watched this comedy. It was definitely a fun adventure for them all. Thank you to Caldwell Fine Arts for arranging this opportunity for our students.

Second and Third Grade Music Program
On Thursday, Nov. 29th Sacajawea Elementary held its second and third grade music program. It was a delightful program with bells, chimes, dancing reindeer, and beautiful children’s voices. Thank you Mrs. Evans for all of the work you did putting this fun program together. Thanks also to our wonderful students and to their families for attending. It was an entertaining evening.

Sacajawea's First Grade Music Program
On February 12th, Sacajawea Elementary’s first grade students performed their annual music program. Since it was on Valentine’s Day week, the theme was songs of love. The students performed several songs with hand motions and one included sign language. They sounded wonderful and they made their parents and teachers quite proud!

Missoula Children's Theater Comes to Caldwell - Opportunity For Kids To Perform
Parents, this next week (and the week after) Caldwell Fine Arts hosts the Missoula Children's Theater's (MCT) production of "Beauty Lou and The Country Beast," an original country western adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Beauty Lou and the Beast both learn to look beyond appearances and first impressions to see the beauty that dwells inside.
If you have kids who love to perform I would highly recommend it. My kids have done the MCT productions a few times and really grown from their experiences. They have had a good time.
Local children audition on Monday and are ready to perform by Friday. They are looking for actors of all ages, from 1st to 12th grades. It is a pretty big commitment, but it a fantastic experience, and it is only one week.
Due to high demand, there will be two MCT residencies this year, with two performance weekends. You can choose which week works best for your family.
Auditions are at:
Lincoln Elementary School (1200 Grant St. Caldwell, ID) on
Monday Afternoon, 1/22 from 4:30PM to 6:30PM
and then again on
Monday 1/29 from 4:30PM to 6:30PM
There is a $5 charge to audition and participate.
Practices depend on the age and part, and may be as much as every evening all week long. Then, the performance will be on Friday and Saturday. It makes for an exhausting week, but it is well worth it.
There will be a musical pre-show, so every student will get a part in something.

Opera Came to SAC
We had a special opportunity to experience Opera Idaho at Sacajawea yesterday. Their performance of Elixir of Love was outstanding. Several of our kids were able to sing along in the chorus and Estrella and Raven had small speaking parts. The setting of the story was in the old west and the story included universal human themes like love, trust, and sacrifice. Our students rooted for the heroes and despised villains. The plot included some surprises.
The vocal talent of the performers was outstanding. Our students got a chance to ask them questions after the performance.
Thanks, Opera Idaho.
Parents, ask your kids to tell you the plot of the story. I've tried to put them in order. That is a great language activity.
