Summer Camp Kick-Off - Week 1 at Sacajawea

It's day 1 of Summer Camp at Sacajawea.  What great opportunities we have for enrichment.  Here are some of the highlights so far.

STEM Camp:
They are building things.  Saws, glue guns, cardboard, and pretty much anything else they can find.  Makers and inventors. And also just a little bit of creative goofyness. All in all, a beautiful mess.

No one was hurt.  Just creative sillyness.

Summer Olympics Theme Camp
Today they are learning about the olympics.  Lots of inquiry and new vocabulary including Samurai and Sushi.  Woot Woot for those project GLAD strategies in action, Mrs. Hallenbeck.

Cooking Camp
Thanks to the City of Caldwell for allowing us to use the kitchen facility at Roberts Rec Center.  Our little group of Jr. Chefs have baked potatoes on the menu today.  A fantastic Spud State start.

Wet and Wild Camp
These junior scientists are exploring the natural world.  They are using microscopes to discover tiny things in their world.   A couple quotes of the day, after looking at the invisible world around them and under their feet:  "My whole life has been a lie!" and "This was totally worth it to sign up for this!" Coming up this week are investigations of lakes and streams near us.

Girls on the Run- What a great season!

What an amazing season! Sacajawea hosted Girls on the Run this past Spring!

We had a great group of 3rd and 5th grade girls who showed up to every practice with a positive attitude ready to take on the day! The girls not only ran, and created healthy physical habits, but they also learned new ways to build confidence, empathize with others and give back to their community.

When coaches asked 3rd grade girls about next year and GOTR they all said they would like to join again next year. Our 5th grade girls will be in a new community as they move on to middle school. However, as they shared plans for the summer and next year some of the girls included running goals such as track, cross country, and running in the neighborhood with friends.

To finish off the great season the girls completed a 5K race on May 22nd. Every single one of the girls gave it their best and finished the race!

There is no doubt that the season has positively impacted this group of girls. We are proud of each and every one of them!

_________
