SAC Staff present at Counseling State Conference

Sacajawea Elementary's counselor, Baylie Bunn, will be presenting at the Idaho School Counseling Association's state conference alongside Community School Coordinator, Hortensia Hernandez this week. The theme for the 2021 state conference is "Stronger Together: Uniting our Strengths for All Students"  with the goal to help mental health professionals from around the state to unite our strengths to advocate for and empower the mental health and wellness of Idaho K-12 students. Mrs.Bunn and Mrs. Hernandez will discuss how the partnership between school counselors and the community school model provides the opportunity to support students and families far beyond their social emotional well-being, both in and out of the classroom.

El personal de SAC presente en la Conferencia Estatal de Consejería.

La consejera de la Escuela Sacajawea, Baylie Bunn, se presentará en la conferencia estatal de la Asociación de Consejería Escolar de Idaho junto con la Coordinadora de Recursos Comunitarios, Hortensia Hernandez esta semana. El tema de la conferencia estatal de 2021 es "Juntos más Fuertes: Uniendo nuestras fortalezas para todos los estudiantes" con el objetivo de ayudar a los profesionales de la salud mental de todo el estado a unir nuestras fortalezas para defender y potenciar la salud mental y el bienestar de los estudiantes del K-12 en Idaho. Love and Logic Classes- Register Today!

Sacajawea Parents, 

Sacajawea will be hosting Love and Logic classes starting next week. Love and Logic is a six week program that is designed to help parents equip kids with character, compassion, problem solving skills and more. 

There are still spots available to sign up. 

There will be six classes all on Monday evenings. Here are some more details

Internet Assistance - Emergency Broadband Benefit- Learn More! // Asistencia de internet Beneficio de banda ancha de emergencia: ¡Obtenga más información!

Sacajawea Families, there is currently an assistance program to help families with the cost of internet service in their homes. The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms, and so much more.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households. 

Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price. 

These are some of the initial qualifiers for the program:

• A household is eligible if a member of the household meets one of the criteria below:
• Has an income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Lifeline;
• Approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school year;
• Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year;
• Experienced a substantial loss of income due to job loss or furlough since February 29, 2020 and the household had a total income in 2020 at or below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers; or
• Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider's existing low-income or COVID-19 program.

Familias Sacajawea, actualmente existe un programa de asistencia para ayudar a las familias con el costo del servicio de Internet en sus hogares. Mask Requirement - Indoors - Starting Tomorrow (9/1) for All Staff and Students --- Requisito de máscaras- Interior- A partir de mañana (9/1) para todo el personal y estudiantes

 

Sacajawea Families - 

As you probably already know, the Caldwell School District Board of Trustees made the decision last night to require masks for all students, staff and visitors in Caldwell schools, including Sacajawea, starting tomorrow through the end of the quarter on October 14th. This is for indoor situations only, so they are not required on the playground.  Of course, they will need to remove masks for eating meals.

While I’m sure none of us are excited about wearing masks, our districts goal is to keep schools open in person every day, and we need to do what we can to make that possible.  

We have seen a recent increase in absences due to illness at Sacajawea, as have other schools in the district. We have quite a few families that are currently experiencing Covid symptoms, or who have tested positive.  We really appreciate families keeping their kids home when they have symptoms and when they have had direct contact with someone with Covid.

We encourage our families to support our goal of continuing in person instruction for all of our students by doing the following to reduce the spread of the virus in our schools:

• Please do not send your children to school if they are sick or have been exposed to a COVID positive individual or family member;
• If your child is waiting on a COVID test result, please do not send them to school;
• Please consider getting a COVID vaccination for individuals age 12 or older in your family. Recently, the Pfizer vaccine was fully approved by the FDA. Here’s a site to schedule an appointment: https://phd3.idaho.gov/covid19/#Vaccine.

We appreciate your partnership during this challenging time. This is really hard on families and we want to keep our kids in school.

Como probablemente ya saben, la Mesa Directiva del Distrito Escolar de Caldwell tomó la decisión anoche de requerir máscaras para todos los estudiantes, personal y visitantes en las escuelas de Caldwell, incluyendo Sacajawea, comenzando mañana hasta el final del trimestre el 14 de octubre. School Hours: 8:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

8:40 a.m. = Students may arrive on campus

8:45 a.m. bell = Line-Up Bell

8:55 a.m. bell = Tardy Bell

3:30 p.m. = Dismissal

2:00 p.m. = Wednesday Early Release Dismissal

**Children are not to be on school grounds prior to 8:40 am.**

Drop Off/ Pick up Information:

 Please, drop off and pick up your students at the parking lot off Taft St.. Students should go straight to their line-up locations. 

Visiting Information:

BUZZER - When you visit our school, you will find a security buzzer by the door. Please, push the button. The office staff will reply and then unlock the door so you can enter. 

ALL parents/guardians/visitors should check in at the office and receive a visitor's pass to enter the building or be on our playground.

 

Dress Code:

No professional sports league (NFL, NBA, MLB etc.) clothing or attire.

All tops must have sleeves. 

No muscle shirts, tank tops, spaghetti straps or strapless tops. 

No tears or rips above the knee. No leggings or yoga pants as pants.

Shorts/Skirts/Dresses shall not be shorter than three inches above the knee.

 

End of Day Information: 

 Please call well before 3:00 PM, at the latest, for changes on student transportation.

Meet the Teacher - Where to Go - 6:00 to 7:30 Tonight.

We are looking forward to seeing our kids and families tonight from 6:00 to 7:30.

For meet the teacher night, please do these things:

#1: Find the bus or drop-off location at school, based on how your child will get to school.

#2: Find the line-up location for your grade, and the place where your child will line up for class. See the pic here.

#3: Find your child's name on the chair at your line-up location, grab a welcome paper and come in the same door where they will enter to come in the building for breakfast in class.

#4: Your teacher will meet you in the classroom.

#5: Specials teachers will be out front by the flag poles.

Also, bus info and questions will be out front near the flag poles.

Back to School Supply Event // Evento de Suministros de Regreso a la Escuela

Back to School Supplies event brought to you by WICAP Community Collaborative Canyon CAP office! This event will take place on Saturday, August 7th from 8a.m to 12p.m at 1512 Fillmore St. This is right behind the Indian Creek Academy Building. 

There will be snack and a mobile health clinic.

Looking For a Great Relationship Builder at Sacajawea- Community School Liaison

 

Please pass this to someone you know who might be interested and qualified.

Sacajawea is looking for an amazing relationship builder, as I will not be returning to Sacajawea next school year. However, I will continue to work with our families, just in a district position and will help oversee the Community School Strategy in other elementary schools. I would like to thank you for your support in these past years. You have been instrumental in the success of our community school strategy. 

Our Community School Liaison oversees the community school strategy in the building. The community school strategy is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, services, supports and opportunities leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. The Community School Liaison is a connection maker and builds relationships with our students, families, staff and community. The person would be another building block to the school system. They would be fully integrated in the school culture, such as participating in staff meetings, helping out at recess duties and spearheading some of their own projects. 

We need someone:

• Who is a connection maker. Looking for ways to build strong relationships with kids, parents, staff and the community. 
• Who is self-driven. Can take charge of their own work. 
• Who is comfortable with looking over data and then being able to analyze what they see. 
• Who is bilingual in Spanish and English (both written and spoken preferred), so that they can serve all of our families well.
• Who will ensure that the Community School Strategy is based on best practices. 
• Who is able to take on multiple roles. 
• Who is trusting and responsible. 
• Who is comfortable with direct interaction with adults and with kids and should also be proficient at using technology for communication and data tracking. 
• Whose integrity is outstanding, and who can build trust with parents, staff, students, patrons, and supervisors.
• Most importantly, we need someone who loves kids and families. 

This is a fantastic way to make a difference in our school and community.

A Book and A Bite- Week 2 was so much fun!

 

What a great turn out we had today for our second week of a Book and A Bite! We are so fortunate for all the families that joined us for some fun and braved the heat! 

A special thank you to our partners who made our day possible and a huge shoutout to Idaho Central Credit Union for providing us with some extra help!

Tuvimos una excelente respuesta de participantes para nuestra segunda semana de Un Taco y Un Libro. Somos muy afortunados de haber tenido tantas familias que nos acompañaron en este calor!
