In a few weeks, Sacajawea's second grade students will be reading "The Story of Helen Keller." It is about how a child that became deaf and visually impaired learned to communicate. Mrs. Grover, Caldwell School District's teacher of visually impaired students, came twice to the school and did presentations to all our second grade students. She explained the different types of visual impairment, how the braille system works, how to read books in braille, how to write with a braille writer and other tools, and explained how to use a cane. Mrs. Grover also answered the students' questions. She left some equipment and things written in braille for a few weeks so that students could try them out. The presentations were interesting and the students thoroughly enjoyed them.
