Building Blocks in Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes enjoyed using their imaginations last Thursday to create sculptures with various kinds of blocks during a BLOCK Fest activity day.  BLOCK Fest is a research-based hands-on experience that increases early math and science learning.
     Why play with blocks?

  • Research has shown that children who play with blocks build strong number and math skills from an early age, that supports them in later mathematical thinking.
  • Block play provides a natural context for children to explore the physical world
  • Playing with blocks provides opportunities for language development as children discuss their structures with adults and children around them
  • Building blocks also supports social and emotional development as the children as asked to share with others, and overcome challenges that arise as they construct.
