Free Bus Service for Caldwell Kids - Summer Opportunity

The "MY ACTIVITY RIDE" program offers FREE bus service in Caldwell and Nampa to various locations, including the Caldwell YMCA. The program includes separate bus routes in Nampa (the Blue Line) and Caldwell (the Purple Line). During the school year, each route makes one trip after school.
When school is out, both the Nampa and Caldwell "My Activity Ride" routes provide three bus runs daily that begin and end at the Caldwell YMCA. Other stops include most of the schools in Caldwell plus the public library.  The service is MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY ONLY and does not run on holidays.
For more info, including route maps, stop locations, and time schedules, visit valleyride.org or call Rideline customer service at 345-RIDE (7433). Here is a direct LINK to the map and the schedule.

Family Science Night A Success

Thank you to everyone who had a part in Sacajawea's Family Science Night. What a great night of inquiry.  Families had a great time with fun experiments and surprising demonstrations. It was great to see the displays in the gym of all the great science activities going on in the classrooms.

Thanks to the teachers for many hours of preparation.  Thanks to Mrs. Cataline and Mrs. Friddle for organizing this event and to Mrs. Friddle and Mrs. Braun for writing the grant application to fund this event.  Thanks to the volunteers from Micron and from CWI for coming in to do demonstrations and for the seniors from CHS who helped out in many areas around the school.

Family turnout was phenomenal (428 people of all ages). Our families and the Sac staff rock!  I love to see our families learning together.  You all make me smile.  Here are a few pics we have collected.

Feel free to send us more pics if you got some of your own that you would like to share.  You can share them with me by email (pwebster@caldwellschools.org) or by commenting or replying on Facebook.

Caldwell Students Matter - Please Vote on Tuesday, May 17th

The Caldwell School  District has a supplemental levy election to be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. This levy would generate $2,500,000 per year for the next two years: 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years. This is not a new levy. It is replacing a current levy that will expire on June 30th.

This supplemental levy will NOT create new taxes and will NOT increase your taxes.

Why is the levy needed?
  • Despite this year's state revenue increase, the supplemental levy is still critical to the district's financial stability and meeting the needs of all our students.
  • Based on the 2014-2015 report, the dollar amount spent per student for Caldwell School District students is among the lowest in the State.
  • Caldwell ranks 98 on per pupil expenditure out of 115 districts. Without the community support of the supplemental levy for our students, Caldwell would rank 111.

Please review this flyer for more information (LINK).

Find your polling place at THIS LINK.
  • What time are polls open? Voting is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on May 17th.
  • What if I am not registered to vote?  There is election day registration in your correct precinct, based on your address, with picture ID and proof of current address.
  • Who can register to vote? Anyone who is a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older, and has lived in the city, county or state for 30 days.
We appreciate the support of the Caldwell community, which makes it possible for us to offer so many programs to create opportunities for our students.

Caldwell students matter!  Please don't forget to vote on Tuesday.

Kindergarten Celebrates Mother's Day

Kindergarten had a special treat for moms to celebrate Mother's Day. We walked to Luby Park for Moms and Muffins on Friday, May 6th. At the park we enjoyed muffins and juice and also sang a song for the moms who came. The students also handed out Mother's Day gifts. On our way back to the school we decided to put our Taking Care of Earth unit into action and picked up trash. Wow, was there a lot of trash! Our new motto in Kindergarten is "Trash Stinks! Pick it up!" Visitors can look at the trash we found in the playground hanging in the hall outside of the Kindergarten classrooms.

First Graders' Experiment!

The first-grade classes did a science experiment to see what would happen if they put some chemicals on charcoal. Prior to the experiment, they had to predict what they thought would happen. They made the following predictions:

-The charcoal would turn gray.

-It would catch on fire.

-It would explode.

-The charcoal would turn into water.

-The charcoal would turn into oil.

-The charcoal would turn into a tornado.

Come to our Science Night on Thursday from 6:00-7:30 to see what happened to with their science experiments!

Sacajawea's Olympic Trials

To celebrate Healthy Kids Day the YMCA and Mr. Thomas joined forces to give Sacajawea students an action-packed day of fun and exercise. In honor of the upcoming summer Olympics, the event began with the staff and students singing the national anthem, led by Miss Chavarria, before they headed off to the different events to compete in.
Thank you Mr. Thomas and the YMCA volunteers for organizing such a wonderful event for the Sacajawea students!
