Behind The Scenes - Mr. Cox - A Sacajawea Workshop Paraprofessional
A shout out to one of our workshop paraprofessionals, Mr. Cox. He works with a small group of kids at each grade level. He doesn't have a classroom of his own, but works on targeted skills with kids behind the scenes, especially looking towards academic growth.
This man brings so much joy to the classroom with his funny stories, animated teaching, and the connections he makes with the kids as he's building relationships and their self-esteem (to the max!).
He has been running small intervention groups with all ages, even during remote learning.
Here's what some of our kids had to say:

It really takes a team of people who work behind the scenes to make a school run. Mr. Cox is a good example of how enthusiasm and relationship can make a difference.

Girls on the Run At Sacajawea
Sacajawea Families- we will be hosting the Girls on the Run program at Sacajawea this Spring!
What is Girls on the Run? It’s an after-school program for EVERY Girl! Helps empower girls and promote physical activity!
Girls will meet twice weekly for 9 weeks, after school. Highly trained and caring coaches will lead 3rd-5th grade girls through interactive lessons that include physical activity. The season will end with a girl-led community impact project and a non competitive 5K.

Familias de Sacajawea: ¡Estamos organizando el programa de Girls on the run para esta primavera!
¿Qué es Girls on the Run? ¡Es un programa extracurricular para TODAS las chicas! ¡Ayuda a empoderar a las niñas y promover la actividad física!

Soccer for Success- Available Spots // Espacio Disponisble
Families, Sacajawea is partnering with Canyon County 4-H to offer Soccer for Success. A 12 week program for students to participate in learning about soccer fundamentals and healthy habits. The program will begin March 1st.
We would like to invite your student to participate. We have limited spots available for each day of the program. Your student can participate on Monday or Tuesday, not both days.
In order to register you must fill out a registration form. We can send one home. Spots are limited so you must return the form in order to be registered for your preferred day.
We have the following spots available per day:
- Monday: 10 Spots Available
- Tuesday: 5 Spots Available
- Open to Kindergarten to 5th Grade
Here are some more details:
- When: March 1st- 12 weeks (except Spring Break)
- Days: Mondays and Tuesdays
- Time: 4:00p.m to 5:30p.m
- * No transportation will be provided.
- This is a free program
- Students will receive a soccer ball and shinguards.
We need packets back by Wednesday, February 17th. Please write on the top of the form what day you would like your student to participate in.
Priority will be given to those as packets are returned. Spots cannot be saved. Once spots are filled, you will be notified if your student is added to the wait-list. Our hope is to run this program again during the summer.

Syringa Registration for 6th grade
Future Cougar Parents,
Recently, staff members from Syringa Middle School were able to connect with your students and their 5th grade classes. We were able to meet and greet students while discussing different opportunities they will have when attending sixth grade at Syringa.

No Sharing Valentines Cards or Treats Please
Sacajawea Kids and Families -
We have been working hard to keep our kids and families safe during this time of pandemic. We love being able to work with our kids in person, and want to do everything we can to keep that going, hoping to get back to full groups in person later this spring. We don’t want to do anything to jeopardize that privilege of learning together. The time we have together for learning is precious.
We have Valentine’s Day coming up on Sunday, February 14th. Often kids exchange treats and cards with their classmates on Valentine’s. While we will likely do some things in class to recognize how we care about each other in our little learning communities, we have decided that it is best if we don’t exchange treats or notes with the class this year. We just don’t want to risk sharing more than just sweets and cards.
If you or your child would like to share with your teacher or class how much you care about them, maybe they could send something electronically. They could make some art at home and snap a picture of it to send via Remind or via email.
We appreciate you being understanding.
We love our kids and families.

Niños y familias de Sacajawea -
Hemos estado trabajando duro para mantener a nuestros niños y familias seguros durante este tiempo de pandemia. Nos encanta poder trabajar con nuestros hijos en persona, y queremos hacer todo lo que podamos para que así sea, con la esperanza de volver a grupos completos en persona más adelante esta primavera. No queremos hacer nada para poner en peligro ese privilegio de aprender juntos. El tiempo que tenemos juntos para aprender es precioso.
Tenemos el Día de San Valentín el domingo 14 de febrero. A menudo los niños intercambian golosinas y tarjetas con sus compañeros de clase en San Valentín. Aunque es probable que hagamos algunas cosas en clase para reconocer cómo nos preocupamos el uno por el otro en nuestras pequeñas comunidades de aprendizaje, hemos decidido que es mejor si no intercambiamos golosinas o notas con la clase este año. No queremos arriesgarnos a compartir algo más que dulces y cartas.
