Professional Counseling Clinic Located in Sacajawea ~ Consejería profesional localizada en Sacajawea

Life Counseling Center - Header with Phone Number
Parents and Families -

We know from surveys and conversations with parents that quite a few are interested in getting outside counseling or behavioral health services for their children or for other family members or for themselves.  Quite a few report that they see some concerning behaviors or would like them to get help with their emotional responses to some difficult life situations. We often see the same concerns.

Although many see a need, many also report to us that they are overwhelmed by the options and the details involved.  It is hard to know where to start.  Transportation is a big barrier.  Paperwork can be complicated.  Finances are short.  Also, many are worried about their students missing school while they drive to regular counseling appointments.

Hortensia Hernandez, our community schools resource coordinator, is always able to help parents navigate these things to help you connect with the resources you and your child need to be successful. There are many great options in Caldwell.  Contact her at: hhernandez@caldwellschools.org

We are excited to announce a new partnership with LIFE Counseling Center and the Caldwell School District right at Sacajawea.  Life Counseling Center will be opening a new counseling clinic in the Sacajawea building. The clinic will provide behavioral health services such as individual, family and group counseling as well as other community-based services. In addition to serving Sacajawea students, counseling services may also be available for older or younger siblings or for moms, dads, or the whole family, depending on the situation.

While the LIFE Counseling office will be in the Sacajawea building, they will only serve patients/clients who sign up directly with them.  Just like any doctor or counselor, they will not share information with the school or vice-versa unless parents specifically give them permission to do that.

Please see the message below from Life Counseling Center.

Zest - Make Learning and Life More Fun!

Zest is the good stuff from the lemon. Shave a little off and it adds a little bite or just enough sour to what you are cooking.    Zest is like that for humans too.  It’s the good stuff.  It makes life so much fun.

We know that certain character traits help make us successful in school and in life.  For the next couple weeks we will be focusing on the character trait of zest.

Zest means to have great enthusiasm or energy.  A person with zest is excited about life. They are fun. Sometimes people with zest are funny.  They are curious.

Students with zest are so FULL OF LIFE. They often have a smile and jump right into learning and life with that little zip of excitement.  Learning is fun!

Just like people, the zest of a lemon has a little bite, a little zing.

Try to live with Zip, Zing, Zest! Why not make learning and life fun?

---------------------------

Missoula Children's Theater Comes to Caldwell - Opportunity For Kids To Perform

Parents, this next week (and the week after) Caldwell Fine Arts hosts the Missoula Children's Theater's (MCT) production of "Beauty Lou and The Country Beast," an original country western adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Beauty Lou and the Beast both learn to look beyond appearances and first impressions to see the beauty that dwells inside.

If you have kids who love to perform I would highly recommend it. My kids have done the MCT productions a few times and really grown from their experiences.  They have had a good time.

Local children audition on Monday and are ready to perform by Friday. They are looking for actors of all ages, from 1st to 12th grades.  It is a pretty big commitment, but it a fantastic experience, and it is only one week.

Due to high demand, there will be two MCT residencies this year, with two performance weekends. You can choose which week works best for your family.

Auditions are at:
Lincoln Elementary School (1200 Grant St. Caldwell, ID) on
Monday Afternoon, 1/22 from 4:30PM to 6:30PM
and then again on
Monday 1/29 from 4:30PM to 6:30PM

There is a $5 charge to audition and participate.

Practices depend on the age and part, and may be as much as every evening all week long.  Then, the performance will be on Friday and Saturday. It makes for an exhausting week, but it is well worth it.

There will be a musical pre-show, so every student will get a part in something.

Resilience - Bouncing Back From Hard Things

Tree Bending
The character trait we will be focusing on for the next couple weeks is Resilience.  Parents, I'd encourage you to share stories with your kids about how you or someone you know have shown resilience in your life.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back after difficult or challenging things.  An object that is resilient will bend, but won’t break.  A resilient person will do the same.
A resilient person can bounce back from hard things.  I like to think of resilience like a rubber band.  You can squish it and it won't break.  You can stretch it quite a bit and it won't break.  In fact, because a rubber band is resilient, when stretched it will spring back and you can use that pent-up energy for good.  Maybe you can make a little car or machine go with it, or you can launch something.

Not everything in school or in life will be easy.  Not everything in life is fair.  Some things are upsetting.  When those hard things happen, be resilient.  Bounce back and be just as strong as you were before.  Go a step further, and, like a rubber band or like a spring, use that bouncing back for something good.

As an object lesson, I like this model and slow-motion video that demonstrate what happens with the shape of a ball, when it hits a hard object.
