Sacajawea's First Grade Field Trip!

On May 3rd first graders spent the morning at Zoo Boise. They popped up like prairie dogs and soaked up the sun like the lions. On the way back to the bus students stopped by the Abraham Lincoln statue, where some asked if he was really that tall, while others explained that there was no way. The classes wrapped things up by having lunch at Settler's Park in Meridian where they enjoyed climbing, playing, and making music.

Students Showcase Their Projects at the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce!

On Tuesday, May 14th, 2019, Mrs. Cataline, Ms. Ortiz, and Mrs. Hoilien, had the privilege of showcasing some of the projects Sacajawea's 3rd graders have worked on, at the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce Noonbreak Luncheon at the College of Idaho.  Megan Hurja and her dad, along with Makinsey Simpson and her mom, joined the teachers and members of the Chamber for lunch and the presentation.  How fun to be able to share our learning with such important members of our community!

STEM Camp for SAC 5th Graders at Gowen Field

This week 5th graders at Sacajawea get the privilege of traveling to Gowen Field to act as designers, engineers, scientists and mathematicians.  Yesterday was day 1 of Starbase, a fantastic opportunity to do hands-on STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) provided by the US Military.  We are so proud of our designers, scientists, engineers, experimenters, problem-solvers.  What a great way to cap the last 6 years of learning.  Bright futures ahead.

Sacajawea’s Welcoming Library!

This year Sacajawea's Librarian, Mrs. Anderson, has made our library very welcoming.  She has purchased comfortable seating, lots of high interest books, and added interesting activities, such as how to look up a word in the dictionary.  If books aren’t being checked out she puts them on an “endangered list” so students will check them out to keep them from being discarded.  Classes also can earn points toward game days that include STEM activities.  The students love their library time.  Thank you Mrs. Anderson, for all of your hard work!

¡ Gracias Sra. Anderson, por todo su trabajo duro!

Second Grade Students Explore Nature!

Recently, Sacajawea’s second grade students went to The Botanical Garden, Quarry Park, Kristin Armstrong Park, and The MK Nature Center.  At the Botanical Garden, they got to learn about different habitats, catch water life with nets in a pond, and look for bugs under rocks.   At Quarry Park they got to go on a scavenger hunt for different things in nature and record pictures of their findings on tablets.  They ate lunch at the Kristin Armstrong Park.  Finally, they got to tour the MK Nature Center.  There they saw lots of wild life, dig up worms and fed them to fish, saw the museum, touched animal pelts, and saw a live falcon.  Their favorite part was seeing wild deer visiting the MK Nature Center’s grounds.  It was a great day for all!
