Zest - Character Focus at Sacajawea

We focus on a different character trait at Sacajawea every couple weeks.  I thought it would be helpful to share with parents what we are discussing.  This next two weeks we will be emphasizing "Zest."

Zest is one of my favorite character traits because it is so much fun.  Zest means to have great enthusiasm or energy.  A person with zest is excited about life. They are fun. Sometimes people with zest are funny.  They are curious.  They are so FULL OF LIFE. They often have a smile and jump right into learning and life with that little zip of excitement.  "Wow, what are we gonna do next?"
Zest is easy to remember because the outside skin on a lemon or orange is called the zest. It wakes you up.  It has a little zing, but it reminds you that you are alive.  The extreme opposite of zest is Eeyore in the story of "Winnie the Pooh."  He wouldn't be much fun to have in your class, would he?  Try to live with Zip, Zing, Zest! Why not make life fun?

Opportunity for Kids to Perform

Parents, this next week Caldwell Fine Arts hosts the Missoula Children's Theater's (MCT) production of "Treasure Island."  They are looking for actors of all ages, from 1st to 12th grades.  It is a pretty big commitment, but it a great experience, and it is only one week.  If you have kids who love to perform I would highly recommend it. My kids have done the MCT productions a few times and really grown from their experiences.  They have had a good time.

Auditions are at Lincoln Elementary School (1200 Grant St. Caldwell, ID) on Monday Afternoon, 1/23 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM.
There is a $5 charge to audition and participate.
Practices depend on the age and part and may be as much as every evening all week long.  Then, the performance will be on Friday and Saturday.

There will be a musical pre-show, so every student will get a part in something.

Looking For a Few Pre-Schoolers / Hay Espacio Por Algunos PreEscolares

The P16 Pre-School programs at Sacajawea and at Lincoln Elementary have space for a couple new students.  Typically, there is a waiting list.  If you know someone with preschool kids, especially if they live in the Sacajawea or Lincoln zones, pass the word on to them.

P16 Preschool is a great program provided in our building by the YMCA.  The program at Sacajawea runs all day Monday through Thursday.  The program at Lincoln runs half day and has room in their PM session.  We'd love for as many of our kids as possible to get a head-start on learning before kindergarten.

Financial assistance is available through the YMCA.

You can pick up a registration packet at the Sacajawea office tomorrow or can get more information from:

School Canceled Friday - Resumes Tuesday 1/17 ---- No Hay Clases el Viernes - Resumen el Martes el 17 de Enero

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

As you know, we have experienced an unprecedented snowfall in the last two weeks, which has created a safety concern regarding the transportation of your children to and from school. This morning (January 12, 2017), we had a team of Caldwell Transportation employees driving the subdivision streets and main roadways to determine if road conditions were safe for buses to pick up students. After carefully considering the facts, it was determined that it would be in the best interest and safety of our children to close schools for today.

After further discussion with Caldwell Transportation and the City of Caldwell, we will not be holding classes tomorrow, Friday, January 13. This will give the City of Caldwell an opportunity to continue their work in clearing roadways. We appreciate our Caldwell City Maintenance and Water Departments for their tireless efforts. We also want to thank patrons for their diligence in clearing their sidewalks to provide a safe route for our students to walk to school or to their bus stops. With everyone’s efforts, we anticipate returning to school on Tuesday, January 17.

Estimados Padres, Guardianes y Estudiantes,
