Warming Little Hands On A Cold Day

Students in Mrs. Folkins' music classes at Sacajawea know how to warm up on cold days! Warming hands and roasting marshmallows by a crackling fireplace on the whiteboard may not change the temperature outside but seems to warm even the coldest little feet when the temps outside are near zero!

We usually schedule indoor recess when temperatures are below 20. Please dress your kids for cold weather every day. Sometimes, even on frigid days we all just need to get our wiggles out for a few minutes.

1st Graders at Sacajawea - Micron Foundation Weather Lessons

The Micron Foundation spent the day at Sacajawea Elementary School on January 16th, teaching first grade students about different forms of weather. Children were presented with information through multimedia presentations, stories, experiments, and discussions. Highlights were: A wintery story about snow and watching how wind creates change.  The students pictured above are experimenting with wind and pinwheels.

Making a cloud using a cold spoon and moisture from breathing.
Students pretending to be snow.
Experimenting with "snow."
Students listening to the story, Axel Annie by Robin Pulver.
Axel Annie is a story about hoping for snow days.

Sacajawea 4th Graders Selected to take National Assessment

4th graders at Sacajawea have been selected to take part in the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress).  This is used to measure how Idaho and the rest of the country is doing in Reading and in Math compared with historical data.  It tries to demonstrate whether we are improving in those two academic areas.  We will take the assessments on January 28th.

The NAEP is sometimes called "The Nation's Report Card."  This is a great opportunity for our students to represent Idaho well.

See the parent letter here in English and in Spanish.
