Our Playground is Almost Ready

Our kindergarten and 1st grade kids lined up to watch the tractors and construction workers build our new playground (Really, we didn't make them do this).  Fascinating learning. So many questions.

The playground is almost ready.  We can't wait.

Thanks to the patrons of the Caldwell School District and to the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for contributing to our playground.

Kindness Week in Sacajawea's Head Start

Our friends in head start celebrated kindness week. They made posters for the kitchen staff for all the yummy food they make and for Mr. De La Cruz for showing them many fun games in P.E.

We are so lucky to be able to have 3 great preschool options for 3 and 4 year olds at Sacajawea.  Head Start is one of them. Call Silvia Garcia at the Caldwell School District (208-455-3300) if you or someone you know are interested in our preschool options.

Sacajawea's 4th Grade Visits Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge!

Sacajawea's 4th grade has partnered with Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge to teach life science. Our students had  the opportunity to take their learning outdoors at Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge this week. Students learned about animal habitats, weather, how to observe, and experienced hands on fun while digging and classifying a variety of bugs. Thank you Deer Flat Wildlife refuge and our generous volunteers who chaperoned to help make this field trip a success for all students!

Super Teachers Win Money for Sacajawea!

Today, September 24th, three teachers from Sacajawea Elementary donned their capes and scratched lottery tickets at a Scratch for Schools event.  Thanks to Tami Burton, Chris Vrooman, and Betty Prall for representing Sacajawea.  Their efforts netted $199 for our school.  This money will help us meet the needs of our students. Thanks also to the Idaho Lottery Commission that sponsors these events for schools in the state.  Way to go super teachers!

Emotional and Behavioral Health Info Nights for Parents ~ Eventos Informativos Para los Padres - Salud Emocional y del Comportamiento

Sacajawea is hosting two information nights for parents that we think may be very helpful.  Each features a guest speaker from Life Counseling and addresses a different aspect of emotional or behavioral health. Many parents have told us that these are areas where they have some worries or concerns.  They want to know more about how to help their kids.

When: Thursdays - Sept 13 and 20 - 6:00 - 7:00
Where: Sacajawea Elementary School Cafeteria
Other Details:
  • Supervised activities for kids during the presentation.
  • Pizza and salad for parents and kids after guest speaker.

  • Thursday, September 13th - Difficult or Traumatic Experiences for Children and How to Reduce their Impact on Learning and Development
Repeated studies show that difficult or traumatic childhood experiences can impact learning and development in children. These difficult experiences may include things like:
    • Exposure to physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.
    • Household stress (conflict, instability, moving frequently, loss of housing, financial struggles)
    • Loss of a family member (death, divorce, incarceration, separation)
    • Living with others struggling with mental or behavioral health or with substance abuse.
Most of us experience some difficult or traumatic experiences.  How do these impact development and learning if we are exposed to too many as children?

In this presentation, our guest speaker will discuss the impact of these experiences and what parents and caregivers can do to minimize or counteract their effects on learning and development.

    • Exposición a abuso físico, emocional o sexual.
