We are looking for ways to help you get ready for the new school year. If you or someone you know is in need of any of the following: internet resources, childcare resources, school supplies, please fill their corresponding form. We will do our best to connect with you with a community resource that can help you get ready for the new school year.

Only complete the forms you are in need of help with. You can complete all three. 

Mrs. Hernandez will be in touch with you before August 21st with more information. 

As for school supplies, they will include a backpack and face mask. Mrs. Hernandez will reach out to you to set up a date and time for pickup.

A Book and A Bite 2020 - Un Libro y Un Bocado

Book and A Bite - Sacajawea - Wednesdays 11:30-1:00

Attention all Sacajawea Families, A Book and A Bite starts next week. We are so excited to be able to create, explore and have fun together. Our first day of A Book and A Bite will be on Wednesday, July 22nd, in the front of the school, from 11:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m. 

We will have four weeks of A Book and A Bite, all filled with fun activities for all ages. We will have multiple activities to participate in, a free book for each participant and an opportunity to win some neat raffle prizes at the end of each day. On week four we will raffle off two bikes. 

In years past we have asked all participants to stay until the very end to be able to win a raffle prize.  This year we are not requiring that. Participants may leave once they are done with their activities. If they win a prize they will be contacted.

Please be aware of all COVID-19 symptoms before allowing your child to attend A Book and A Bite. The questions to ask yourself are:

• Does your child have a fever (100° F or more) or has your child had a fever in the past 24 hours?
• Is your child exhibiting any flu-like symptoms including shortness of breath, nausea, cough, headache or chills?
• Has your child been around someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 14 days?
• If you answer yes to any of the above questions, please keep your child home A Book and a Bite.

Restrooms will not be available for use.

Atención a todas las familias de Sacajawea, un libro y un bocado comienza la próxima semana. Estamos muy emocionados de poder crear, explorar y divertirnos juntos. Nuestro primer día de A Book and A Bite será el miércoles 22 de julio, en frente de la escuela, de 11:30 a.m. a 1:00 p.m.

STEM Camp at SAC - Summer 2020

Oh, the things they will think. Oh, the inventions they will make. Oh, the places they will go.  Oh, the programs they will build.  These are our kids at the Sacajawea Summer STEM Camp last week.  

These kids just finished kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade.  What will they do next?

Thanks to Mrs. Prall, Mr. Cox (and family), and Mrs. Hernandez for making this camp happen.  Thanks to the Idaho STEM Action Center for the generous grant to make this possible.  @IdahoSTEMAC

1st - 3rd Grade Summer STEM Camp- First Day

The first day of STEM camp was a huge success! Students engineered and designed their own water slides, practiced coding with robots, built, explored and created! The rest of the week will have these first-third grade students engaged and learning in many hands-on ways. The student’s left please and excited to come back for another day of STEM!

 This is Sacajawea’s first summer STEM camp and we are hopeful to continue this tradition for many years to come. In the fall of 2019, Sacajawea disassembled the computer lab and converted it into a STEM lab. Students had regularly scheduled lab time and we will continue to develop a curriculum for the lab that makes it successful and accessible to all students.

It is not too late for students going into 4th and 5th grade to register for camp this summer. Next week’s camp will be specifically for our older students and include more advanced elements of coding, engineering, 3D printing and more! ¡El primer día del campamento STEM fue un gran éxito! ¡Los estudiantes diseñaron sus propios toboganes de agua, practicaron la codificación con robots, construyeron, exploraron y crearon! El resto de la semana tendrá a estos estudiantes de primer y tercer grado comprometidos y aprendiendo de muchas maneras prácticas. ¡Nuestros estudiantes se fueron contentos y emocionado de regresar para otro día de STEM!

 Este es el primer campamento STEM de verano de Sacajawea y esperamos continuar con esta tradición durante muchos años. En el otoño de 2019, Sacajawea desmontó el laboratorio de computación y lo convirtió en un laboratorio STEM. Community Food Distribution/ Distribución Comunitaria de Alimentos

On June 20th, 2020 the Caldwell community is invited to participate in the Caldwell Community Food Distribution, in partnership with the Idaho Food Bank and Team Rubicon. There is no qualification to receive food. Only household size and city/zip code information will be collected for data purposes.

This will be a drive thru distribution. Please stay in your vehicle.

When: Saturday, June 20th, 2020
Where: O’Conner Field House-
 S. 22nd Ave, Caldwell, Idaho
Time: 11:00 a.m to 4:00. Or until food runs out.

Each household will receive two boxes of food (until food runs out)

These food boxes contain a variety of dairy, pre-cooked meat and produce items.

All boxes are the same.

A Principal's Reflections on a School Year - #SkyhawkProud -- Mis Reflexiones Sobre el Año Escolar

It has been about a week and a half since our official “last day” of school.  It has been such a strange spring.  Even since our last day of school, it seems like a year has passed, with news of tragedy, violence, and civil unrest sweeping across the country, likely hitting each of us a little differently, some of us very personally.  

For the last week or so I have been rolling a reflection on our school year around in my head.  All spring our kids and families worked hard to maintain a connection with their teachers and to follow through, as best they could, in the midst of our “soft closure.”  In spite of your family obligations, work, and health risks, you came to school to pick up learning materials and worked to connect online. 

We felt like it was only fair for our teachers and staff at Sacajawea to come to you, as a symbol of our gratitude. So we finished our year with a parade around the majority of the Sacajawea neighborhoods, trying to get within a couple blocks of most families.  #SkyhawkProud

As I drove the parade route in my old truck and as I’ve reflected on the school year as a whole, these were a few of my reflections.  [We didn’t get many great parade pics, most of us were busy driving.  I can say that, personally, I was managing a gear shift, a trumpet, and a steering wheel, maybe not in that order. #1: I am grateful for our kids, their families, and the network of families that support each other in the neighborhoods. As we drove we saw siblings, parents, grandparents, cousins, neighbors and friends out together. We are in this together.  Your invisible network of families and neighbors is a powerful thing.  What a great place to be.

#2: I am grateful for our teachers and support staff who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to meet the needs of our kids and their families.  I know our teachers and staff make a difference for you too.  We were surprised by families and kids who had flowers and signs. I’m so glad that our families and kids recognize the care and respect that our Sacajawea family has for them.  It is an honor to work alongside such caring and committed professionals.

#3: I am grateful that I get to live and serve kids and families in the city of Caldwell and the Caldwell School District.  Caldwell is a place chock full of opportunity for kids and families, regardless of race, language or income.  Caldwell really is a great place to be a kid and to be a family of a kid. 

In a time that may seem dark and gloomy, thanks for continuing to show us hope.  I see so much hope in our kids and in our families.  Thanks for sticking together in this challenging time.  Together, we build a  great community.  Here’s to a successful future for every kid!

Mis Reflexiones Sobre el Año Escolar

Ha pasado una semana y media desde nuestro "último día" oficial de clases. Ha sido una primavera tan extraña. Incluso desde nuestro último día de escuela, parece que ha pasado un año, con noticias de tragedia, violencia y disturbios civiles que se extienden por todo el país, probablemente recebido de manera diferente para cada uno de nosotros, algunos muy personalmente.

Durante la última semana he estado dando una reflexión sobre nuestro año escolar en mi mente. Toda la primavera, nuestros estudiantes y familias trabajaron duro para mantener una conexión con sus maestros y seguir adelante, lo mejor que pudieron, en medio de nuestro "cierre temporal". A pesar de sus obligaciones familiares, el trabajo y los riesgos para la salud, usted vino a la escuela para recoger materiales de aprendizaje y trabajó para conectarse en línea.

Sentimos que solo era justo que nuestros maestros y personal de Sacajawea vinieran a ustedes, como símbolo de nuestra gratitud. #1: Estoy agradecido por nuestros niños, sus familias y la red de familias que se apoyan mutuamente en los vecindarios. Estoy muy contento de que nuestras familias y niños reconozcan el cuidado y el respeto que nuestra familia de Sacajawea tiene para ellos. Es un honor trabajar junto a profesionales tan atentos y comprometidos.

#3: Estoy agradecido de poder vivir y servir a niños y familias en la ciudad de Caldwell y el Distrito Escolar de Caldwell. Caldwell es un lugar lleno de oportunidades para los niños y las familias, independientemente de la raza, el idioma o los ingresos. Caldwell realmente es un gran lugar para ser un niño y ser una familia.

En una época que puede parecer oscura y sombría, gracias por seguir mostrándonos esperanza. Veo tanta esperanza en nuestros niños y en nuestras familias. Gracias por permanecer juntos en este tiempo difícil. Juntos, construimos una gran comunidad. ¡Por un futuro exitoso para cada niño!
