Our Sacajawea Alumni Scholarship

Sacajawea Student Council members had the opportunity to give back this week! Students presented a former Skyhawk with the Sacajawea Student Council Scholarship at the Caldwell High School scholarship assembly. Funds were raised from proceeds collected throughout the year from the Skyhawk Shop. The Skyhawk Shop is run by student council members. Students sell merchandise to fellow classmates and students that can be used during their day such as pencils, erasers, and sharpeners.

Viviana Lopez was this year’s recipient and chosen for several reasons. The first reason she was chosen is she has achieved and maintained a GPA above 3.5 throughout her high school career. In addition, Viviana has contributed to her community through several community service opportunities, including helping elementary students twice a week with their reading skills, passing out food boxes to local families in need, and helping at annual events such as school carnivals and Boo at the Zoo! Lastly, student council members chose her for the meaningful advice that she has passed onto Sacajawea students. This advice included 3 main points...be kind to others, take your school work seriously, and dream big, anything is possible!

Sacajawea’s School Carnival was a Success!

Sacajawea Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) put on a wonderful carnival.  There were lots of games, popcorn, bake sale items, dinner that could be purchased, and a lot of great raffle items.  Several community partners came to participate in the event.  We even had Clifford the Big Red Dog in attendance.  Thank you to our PTO for organizing this event, Mary Korn for heading up the bake sale, the community partners that came, the community partners that donated raffle items, and the staff for their work on this event.  It was a joy to see lots of families with lots of smiles.  Thanks to all who came.

Special Shout-outs to a handful of individuals who put in a bunch of work on the back-end to make the carnival possible:
  • Melissa Reedy (and family) - Carnival Director
  • Destiny Calderwood - PTO President
  • April Mason - Assistant Carnival Director
  • Pam Hoilien - PTO Treasurer
  • Hortensia Hernandez - Community School Resource Coordinator

First Graders Learn About Pointillism!

Recently, Sacajawea's First graders read the story, "The Dot".  It is about a young girl who doesn’t believe she can do art until her art teacher shows her that dots can be art!  The students then experimented with Pointillism using paints, cotton balls, and Q-Tips!

Sacajawea’s STEM and Fitness Night was a Blast!

Recently, Sacajawea held a STEM and Fitness Night.  Families could do STEM activities and get a taco salad dinner.  If they did fitness activities they got a smoothie.  There were also science displays showing parents what their children were learning in class.  The night was enjoyed by all and it was enhanced by having community partners come in to do STEM activities with the families.  Thank you to Book It Forward for handing out free books, Micron for setting up lots of STEM activities, Caldwell Fire and Rescue, the Caldwell Police Department, the City of Caldwell Wastewater Technology, the 4H, the Deer Flat youth for making smoothies, and the Syringa Middle School AP Science students for helping with this great night!  Thanks also to our staff for helping set up this evening and our families for attending.
