Boise State Football Players Share With Sacajawea 4th Graders

November is a month where many people share what they are thankful for in their lives.  On November 8th, fourth graders at Sacajawea were very thankful that Brad Larrondo (Assistant Athletic Director for Football) brought part of the BSU football team to share the importance of reading in their lives, getting a good education, honesty, team work, and responsibility. The team emphasized the importance of accountability (you own the consequences of your decisions and choices), unity (being a team player), and integrity (doing the right thing in public and in private—living the truth).

Thank you Brad for bringing such shining examples of these values!  We are thankful to #19 Mercy Maston, #3 Cleshaw Page,  #4 Darian Thompson, #5 Donte Deayon, #6 Chaz Anderson, #22 Chanceller James, and #30 Jonathon Moxey! What an amazing day!  The teachers had to scrape the kids off the ceiling when they were done, but it was well worth it!

Thanks also to Ms. Simpson for making the arrangements for this fantastic event for the 4th grade team.

Orchestra Demonstration - Fall 2013

One great opportunity for kids at Sacajawea is the chance for 5th graders to take orchestra. Our 5th grade orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Rosandick and Mrs. Rosen held a demonstration yesterday to show their parents how much they have improved.  They also showed and explained proper techniques for practice and performance.

Congratulations to DIII Elementary Honor Choir Participants

Jesus Ponce and Israel Rivera, 4th grade students from Sacajawea, were excellent examples of musicianship and citizenship as they spent Saturday, November 2, rehearsing with other Treasure Valley elementary students at NNU's Brandt Center. This group, under the direction of Judith Herrington from Tacoma, WA, performed for family and friends at 4pm. The boys would like to thank Mona Jackson for organizing the event, David Burton, CHS Choir Director, for the Vocal Scholarship and Mrs. Folkins, Music Instructor as Sacajawea, for helping them be able to participate is this great event.

Building Blocks in Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes enjoyed using their imaginations last Thursday to create sculptures with various kinds of blocks during a BLOCK Fest activity day.  BLOCK Fest is a research-based hands-on experience that increases early math and science learning.
     Why play with blocks?

  • Research has shown that children who play with blocks build strong number and math skills from an early age, that supports them in later mathematical thinking.
  • Block play provides a natural context for children to explore the physical world
  • Playing with blocks provides opportunities for language development as children discuss their structures with adults and children around them
  • Building blocks also supports social and emotional development as the children as asked to share with others, and overcome challenges that arise as they construct.
